NPHCE Guideline

Objective:-

  1. Providing health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services to the elderly through community health service.
  2. Diagnosing health related problems in old age through community health service.
  3. To develop the capacity of individuals to provide medical, paramedical care and family care for providing health care to the elderly.
  4. Providing health facilities to old patients through district hospital and regional medical centers.
  5. To establish coordination with National Rural Health Mission, AYUSH and other line departments like Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Activities to be done under the program:-

  1. Running a weekly clinic for the elderly by a trained medical officer at the Primary Health Center.
  2. Regular medical examination of the elderly related to eye, blood pressure, blood sugar etc.
  3. To make the public aware about the health upliftment, prevention and treatment facilities for the elderly through camps and publicity in the villages.
  4. Establishment of rehabilitation center for physiotherapy and counseling at Community Health Center
  5. Running a clinic for the elderly twice a week at the Community Health Center.
  6. Sending serious patients from Community Health Center to District Hospital and Higher Medical Centers.
  7. Regularly running out patient service center for the elderly in the district hospital.
  8. Running 10 bedded ward for old inpatients at District Hospital.
  9. Providing medical facilities according to the needs of the elderly by other specialist doctors available at the district hospital.
  10. Running 30 bedded wards for old age in-patients at Regional Geriatric Medical Center.
  11. To run a special sample collection center for necessary laboratory tests for the elderly in the out-patient department at the Regional Old Medical Center.
